California Legal?
I sold a S & W model 27-2 in 3 1/2" barrel. Can I just send this to an FFL, or do I have to do a private party transfer on it. Both I an dht ebuyer live in Ca. Thank you

Fraid your out of luck. According to this site, any semi auto shotgun accepting a detachable magazine is Verboten (hope I spelled it right).

The reality of the situation is that the Saiga series falls under Catagory II of the three Califoronia assualt weapons bans. The problem is that Catagory II lists dozens of AK type firearms which the Attorny General decided were so close to being banned AK's (the 1989 ban which used model names and designations) that he simply added them to the list of restricted firearms. Caliber has no effect on these firearms so a Saiga in 5.56, 7.62 .410, or 12 gauge are all treated as the same. Only licensed firearms dealers may have these firearms shipped into California and private individuals are prohibited from purchasing them, the cut off date was December 31, 2000.

Mark I have a question. Can you put a folding stock on a pump shotgun in Calif.? I know where hyperdrive gets his info. It comes from that empty nutshell on his shoulders. 0 -
No offense ment Mark, but the Calif. D O J site I hyper-linked, says specifically that "SEMI-AUTO" shotguns with detachable magazines are considered "Assualt Weapons" and are not legal. 0 -
Quite correct Snowman. The regs include a detachable magazines or two of the following: Pistol grip or folding stock (I doubt there is a folding stock made without a pistol grip). Neal, pump action shotguns are not regualted under any of the states assault weapons regulations so you can add the folder if you wish. Thanks for catching me on that one Snowman, it was 5:30 am when I typed that first post!

California Legal is a contradiction in terms. Subject to change, interpretation and available for free for only 59 cents on the back of a $3 dollar bill. Your mileage may vary and not a right under the Second Amendment according to judges who are desperately in need of remedial reading lessons.

If your post is dealing with the ninth circut court of appeals ruling on the Second Ammendment, I should point out that this same circut court also has jurisdiction over these states: Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. If the judges you mention say that the Second is void in California, then we are in good company with our western neighbors.
