Dry Fire for Berreta 96
Is it okay if I do dry fire exercises with my berreta 96?

There is a 95% chance that you will do no damage. That being said, why would you risk it. Buy some snap caps to practice fire. If you don't, you won't know if you've damaged it until the next time you try to fire it. Let's hope that's not in a life threatening situation.

I thought about getting some snap caps, but then deceided to chance it with my 96. I've dry fired it maybe 300 times with no apparent ill effects. 0 -
Snap caps are just not that expensive. It is really cheap insurance to avoid the possible damage. I never dry fire anything without snap caps. Guys act like it is a major out lay to buy some, such that if they bought them they couldn't afford to shoot real bullets for a year. Penny wise and dollar foolish.
Silverbox, that proves that in 300 dry fires no observable damage has occured. No guarantee for 301 or 506.

Yeup it could break any day!! Its not my favorite gun, I got the vertec for the cool accessory rail, but my hands are way to big for that lil frame . If it broke maybe I'd have to trade it for a 96FS non-vertec!! *grins*0 -
You should never DRY FIRE....Enertia will, One Day, Pop the Tip off the Firing Pin....Then what........? I'm sure 'OOPs' won't cover the Thoughts coursing thru your Mind...

Had the firing pin to snap off on a Winchester 94 by dry firing it; however, I do have a question. I think both Ruger and S&W say that it does not hurt to dry fire their revolvers. Arrr, what say yee to that Captain?

Well Me Harty...Seems that a Young Man what go by the name of Jeff, what lives in San Diego had the Tip of the Firing Pin Bounce across His Dining Room Table the otherday whilst Dry Firing His Tanfaglio .45 simi-automatic Pistol...Mr. Jeff has dropped me a Note saying that He wished He had listened to what I was Saying....In my Younger and Foolish days..I've done it and have snapped the Tip off the Firing Pin....I've seen Guns come into My Dads shop with the Tip Gone...And I've had Guns come thru My Door with Tips missing....Needless to say...I made Money from this Practice...and some Gunsmith in San Diego is about to make a Few Bucks because of this practice also.....Do as you wish....But keep in mind if the Problem ever arrises and You are faced with a life and death situation and you squeeze the Trigger and it only go's Click!!!!!Better check to see if the Magazine is in the Gun...and Loaded....Because You know in your heart that the Firing Pin Tip would never let YOU down in such a situation...Would it...?
