I am attempting to build a S.S. 375H&H ???????
I would love some input or critics opiniums on my pet project. I am attempting to build a not so costum Remington 700 BDL S.S. 375 H&H I have tracked down a used but excellent Stainless steel/Composition stocked 375H&H 700 BDL. The only draw back on the gun is the sights I would like a nice clean barrel, should I just remove it and sell and have a custom barrel replaced? or is there an alternative? I am also considering purchasing an original magnum walnut BDL stock and restocking with that, I know this is far from the better stocks to choose from but I do like the look and fit. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Why cant you unscrew the sights that are on the gun and fill the holes with stainless plug screws?
The stock you want is readily available from any parts dealer, or even on eBay. Make sure you get a magnum stock and try to get one with straight grain especially through the wrist area.

Would you suggest because I am using a wood stock that I bed it for more durability?

Shoot it before you do anything. And not off a bench. A .375 H&H has stout recoil. Not something you want to shoot off a bench. 0 -
I am going to put a brake on the thing as soon as I get it but I was wondering what else should be done

If you put a brake on it you won't have a clean barrel any more.
If you butcher it up with all the changes, you'll have the price of two rifles in it.
I would get it, keep it as it is, put on a quick detachable Leupold Vari-X III 1.5 - 5 scope and have a perfect foul weather, hard-hitting dangerous game hunting rifle. Then find another one you like and you'll have TWO! for the same money.

Why get rid of the composite? I've got 2 .375s, one of which is a Mauser 3000 with beautiful wood that I've had fixed twice. Splits top of grip after a few stocks. Understand wimpy recoil lug is the problem on that gun. Doubt you'd have that problem with Rem. Good luck it's a great calibre. 0
