M1 Garand early eject problem

I bought a select grade M1 from DMC about 2 years ago. When I first got it, it would partially eject the clip with 4 or 5 live rounds still in it, every time.

We changed out all parts (oprod, follower, springs, etc) with an M1 shooter, one at a time and it made no difference.

Tried military ball, Danish, reloads, same problem.

Talked with a nice DCM guy in (I think Alabama) and he sent me a new clip latch.

Now it only tries to partially eject the clip about once every 3 or 4 clips.

Any ideas?

  I would make sure the clip latch studs on the clips are not worn, and then replace the clip latch spring. For some reason the latch is letting go of the clip to soon. It is possable that the latch is not fully extended to hold the clip.

  If changing the clip latch failed to correct the problem the next quick check is to change out the clip latch spring as rordog suggested. If that too fails you can count on either a bad operating rod catch or possibly a bent bullet guide. Bearing surface wear on the op rod catch can cause the clip release to cycle off time and eject the clip and any number of unfired rounds. If you combine a worn op rod catch with a weak clip latch spring the clip latch simply bounces out of engagement and allows the clip to be released as the bolt opens. None of these parts are expensive or difficult to replace and in most cases this clears up the probem once and for all.

  Thanks guys, as soon as I get a chance, I'll swap out the latch clip spring then the oprod catch with another rifle and try it out.
