help me decide if this 700 1 piece base is for me
Now that my scope arrived I've been shopping for a 1 piece base for my pss and thought I'd found one that wouldn't cost me a fortune. I didn't think $66 was bad when I'd been seeing some that were quite a bit over $100. GG&G for example. I'm open to suggestions here though. (I don't want the Leupold kind with the quick detach or windage adjustment in the back, just a straight 1 piece base). So I came across this one at www.tacticalstocks.com that I can order from brownells, but when I look at the image, it seems like there's only 1 screw in the back.

Why would a manufacturer only want to use 3 out of 4 of the screws? I'm concerned that I'm not getting a good solid fit in the back with only 1 screw.

My taste runs to Talley rings and bases. I think they are the most bullet proof built. I am not sure if they make a onepeice base though. Rings and bases run about $100 total.

Most one piece bases I've seen or mounted have only had one screw in the back, just from my experience,Bob. 0 -
I can't understand the need for super strong steel mounts when you're mounting an aluminum body scope. I've trashed a couple of good scopes but never had a Weaver ring or base fail.

Mobuck the reason for strong mounts is that a lot of the motion that occurs in the system at firing occurs between the receiver bridge and the mounts, and between the mounts and the rings. The point is to keep those points as rigid as possible.
