Winchester 9410 Gun of the Year ?
I have a Winchester 9410, Lever Action .410 Shotgun that is the National Wild Turkey Federation, 30th Anniversary "Gun of the Year".
What is this gun worth to someone in the collector's business?
When I get ready to sell it, I don't want to get ripped off.

My Gun Traders Guide doesn't list this gun yet. My opinion (for what it's worth) is that it isn't worth any more than one that isn't the "gun of the year" version. I'd say a good starting price if it's NIB is around $450-500. Years from now, this gun might be worth more than its standard counterpart.

My local FFL has 2 of these for sale at $750.
No idea why so much-it's just a lever action 410 shotgun.
Russian model is semi-auto(neater, therefore less expensive).
Wonder just how many wild turkeys get shot w/it this year since a lever makes more noise than most semi's.

I worked on the band game at our local NWTF chapter banquet that gave one of those guns away in March. I have been on the local chapter committee since we began the chapter and we always give the NWTF gun of the year away on the same game each year. Other years that game sold out as fast as any but this year with the 410 lever action as the prize, we like to never sold all the chances. The regional rep. for NWTF told me that we were the only chapter in his region to sell all the chances on that gun this year. I don't know why they gave that gun as the gun of the year. It is not even legal to hunt turkey with in Ky. It is a nice gun but just something that I would not have a use for. If you do keep it new in the box unfired, it will increase in value but the market will be a small market for them. There is no doubt that it is of good quality and if you have young children in your family it would make them a decent starter shotgun. Look at it this way, if you won it you probably do not have much in it! 0 -
Any .410 is an experts gun, not a starter or kids gun. The recoil is small, but so is the shot pattern!

The shot pattern along with low recoil is exactly what makes it a good starter shotgun for kids. One thing that you want to teach kids, other that safety, is shot placement! The kids learn on a 410 that they must be on target rather than some where near it as with a 12 gauge! When you shoot a squirrel with a 22 just being near it does not count yet with a 20 gauge shotgun you can be off target by a small margin and still kill the squirrel due to shot pattern. A 410 allows the kid to focus on being on target rather than near enough for the shot pattern to make the kill. Safety and shot placement is what kids need to be taught. My kids learned to trap shoot with a 410 and now they use 12 gauges. They think that it is easy with a 12 gauge. One is going to shoot both 20 and 12 gauge catagories in 4-H this year due to an added challenge. He would shoot a 410 if it were allowed as well. Mind you though the 410 winchester lever action is not a trap gun either but it will make a decent squirrel gun. 0 -
For about the 10th time I'm going to tell some of you "knuckleheads" that the .410 IS an OK starter gun as long as it's loaded with #9 skeet loads which have over 300 pellets. No, grown men don't think much of it, but it's just fine for 9 - 12 year olds who weigh less than 110 pounds. !4 - 15 year olds are fine with a 12 guage but little kids can't lug a heavy gun around so well. After all, I think we're supposed to teach an appreciation for the outdoor experience and hunting - not just filling up a game bag!! 0 -
