jennings j-22........
my late father left me this gun...i was reading some of the recall notices and other info at a different site...this gun was listed as having some problem with accidently firing..if dropped..with out pulling the trigger.....im not sure if this was just a warning or notification of a recall..as it didnt mention to send it back for repair...if it was a recall....isnt jennings long gone?..i heard that they became Phoenix arms some time back...anyway any info on this would help as well...thanks..Kris

dont fret it..no offense taken..the original sales receipt is with it..$38.00....not what i would call a high quality firearm.. ...lol..just going thru some of the things he left me....besides i just got a new sig 40 cal p226 to use..soon as i can scrape up the money i will get the .357 barrel as well..thanks for the reply 0 -
I had a Jennings J-22 that I used for a while. It is mostly of cast non-ferrous alloy, but it is OK for what it is.
Mine was well-used when I got it, and I found that it was good for about three magazines full of ammo when it was clean. After that, it would get dirty and jam some, but for the first three full mags, it was as reliable as anything else I have used. Plenty good enough for a toy.
I agree with dano that it is not worth spending money on, but it is not necessarily junk.

Dad has one. He is probably the only guy out there who made a set of hand carved walnut grips for his jennings. Kind of like putting a spoiler and supercharger on a Yugo. But it is a reliable, acceptably if not wonderfully accurate gun out to about 15 yards. His is reliable with either Thunderbolt or Federal ammo. Worth up to $50 but certainly no more. Not a defense gun though I'd take a Jennings over nothing any day.

Jennings was taken over by Bryco and it is my understanding that they are not (or were not) honoring any Jennings warranty or recall claims. Regardless, it would cost you more in shipping (round trip by air) than the firearm is worth. I always found the .25 ACP Jennings pistols were SLIGHTLY more reliable than the rimfires.

Sold a Ford Duelly on Fleabay. Man picked it up and drove it back ot GreenBay Wis. Forgot my J-22 ( fishing tackle box gun ) was in the truck. Called the Sheriff's dept. and they referred me to the Police Dept. in GBay. I wanted the gun destroyed.. would cost too much to return it. PD in Gbay did just that.. went to vehicle location, got owner and located gun. PD sent me a nice letter that gun had be destroyed. Buyer was a little mad... he had an unlicensed .45 in truck when they picked up my gun. He had a little explaining to do. Was on company property he worked for. I just wanted my gun destroyed so it wouldn't get in the wrong hands.. 0 -
Granted the J-22 is a very cheaply made gun, but I have never had a problem with it and mine is as accurate as any other small 22 semiauto I have. I doubt if it will last very long, and I doubt if I would trust my life on it unless it was the only thing I had, but it has been fun to plink with it. 0 -
JUNK Mine went full auto after about a year of limited service then developed some other problems. I deemed it too dangerous, disassembled it and tossed the parts in a lake. 0 -
I have a black one that I have had for close to 20 years. The black has worn off one side where it has ridden in my rear pants pocket. I do not carry it with one in the chamber but no one wants me shooting at them at 20 to 30 yards with it! It is accurate for what it is and it does go off when you pull the trigger with a round is in the chamber. I would not call mine junk, cheap yes! As to recalls, I do not know of any but it does need to be cleaned on a regular basis so as to not jam. Do not carry it with one in the chamber because the safety does work off on them! 0 -
I have had both a J-22 and a J-25 for years. For the money they are a reasonable value. The .25 was a gift; the .22 i picked up for $20 used at a guns show without grips, which I picked up with a lot of spares at another gun show for $5. I had the safety lever break on the J-25; an inquiry letter to the factory resulted in two levers, free, by return mail. No other problems.
I agree with Mark, although my experience is limited to these two guns, the .25 does seem to be slightly more reliable in function. Both of them are reliable enough if kept reasonably clean. I can get them to misfeed if I try to shoot them as fast as possible.
