J Steven arms company model 15
A friend of mine has a J Stevens arms company Springfield model 15 i cant find a serial number on the gun any where or file markings were some would have filed it away did they not put serial numbers on these guns i would find that very weird any help whould be great.

Ahhh! My very first firearm, received for Christmas at age 12. Still have it--close to new condition! To answer you question: They did not have serial numbers. This was not uncommon with less expensive guns, and thousands upon thousands of many brands were made without them. They were not required by law until 1968. Some higher quality companies like Colt and Winchester always had them, but such was not the case with the little Stevens. 0 -

A small clarification. Many hundreds of thousands of Winchester .22 rifles never were serialized, either. Same with Remington, Savage, Stevens, etc.

Killed (and wounded) a bunch of those dangerous Campbell's Tomato Soup cans with that little baby!

Very recently I noticed that The Numrich Gun Parts Corp. was selling them new from their catalog. The stock doesn't look quite the same, but that cocking knob is unmistakable. They are probably assembling them from left over Stevens parts with newly mfg. stocks and perhaps newly mfg. barrels. Worth a look if still interested. 0
