winchester 94

Hello Bert,
I recently obtained a Winchester model 94 carbine,serial number 1762061,caliber stamp .30-30 Win., serrated hammer, flat checkered steel butt plate, short fore end wood, not tapped for receiver sight, blank upper tang. I'm hoping this Winchester is from 1951 also my birth year, am I close? Thanks, Greg LaHaie

  I have the chance to buy a Winchester 94 like new in box from my brother. He said he has fired about 8 rounds through it. It's got the cross bolt safety and is .45 LC. I think it's a trapper because it's short. He said he would take $350 for it. How much is it worth now and how much will it be worth now that they wont make them anymore?

  I wonder if this gun was made by Winchester but sold under another name, like Ted Williams for Sears? It's also possible that over the past 109 years they have marked the guns in numerous ways.

  Winchester marked the guns several ways, but I ave no record of these markings. Supposedly the DOM was 1897.

  Welcome rcdis,
  I have an old (copyright 1971) Winchester Book by Madis.
  On page 391 it states: "after serial numbers reached one million,a new die will be seen on caliber .30 arms, but does not become apparent in all isues until number 1,045,000 was passed when it is found on most guns. It is:
  MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA
  - WINCHESTER -
  WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL - TRADE MARK -
  -MODEL 94-30 W.C.F.
  the above die was of 3 pieces, and some minor changes occured in cutting new dies, especially the "Winchester Proof Steel" and "Model 94-30 W.C.F." lines, and in the location of the words"
  The above is a direct " from the book. Hope this helps.
