True stainless steel scopes?

I'm not aware of anyone making SS scopes. To the best of my knowledge, they are all aluminium with a silver finish. I think stainless would be too heavy and along with the higher carry weight, the recoil the scope absorbs goes up (percentage-wise) the heavier it is.

I have a Weaver 2X pistol scope that is all stainless. Owned it maybe 15 years. Don't know if they are still in production. Originally purchased it for a Ruger Super Redhawk prior to factory installed scope mount. Long since sold pistol but still have scope laying around.

I too wish someone would make true stainless scopes, but apparently no one does. I hate the way the color of the silver-colored aluminum scopes varies and usually does not come close to matching at stainless gun. Stainless rings are also scarce. Ruger factory are the only ones that come to mind.

bambihunter, the weight of steel is not the issue. All old Weaver scopes are steel, as are many European scopes. Stainless steel would not weigh any more than carbon steel in a scope body.

clays, your statement is going to make me have to go digging for old Weaver catalogs looking for a true stainless pistol scope! I do not recall such a scope. Does anyone else?

Conotrol does make stainless rings and bases. They are about as spendy as you would guess.

Judge, I'll agree with you about the scopes weighing the same as carbon steel scopes, but I was was comparing them to the generally-lighter aluminium bodied scopes.
I think sometime in the near future someone will release a titanium bodied scope. Light-weight and strong, I am sure the finish won't match stainless either. Maybe a titanium rifle is in the works too???
