General questions on the firearm auctions here...
I guess I'm accustomed to viewing e bay auctions (just discovered this site a couple weeks ago) but why is it 9 out of 10 gun offerings don't even get 1 bid?
Do most of the sellers simply begin their auctions too high, are most just trolling for an unwitting "fly" to come along and take the bait?
Seems like if some of these guys really wanted to move some items they would get the clue!
Interested to read your opinions, especially those with insight on fair and compeititive gun prices.

Slow time of the year.......Guns aren't Soda Pop.......Internet sales of "Un-Common Guns" are better than "Stock Shop items." Stock guns are generally cheaper at the local shop....especially when you pay shipping and handling, FFL Transfer Fees, etc. Now You have a Clue!

The answer to both of your questions is yes. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary that you would have trouble finding in your local area, you can do all right on the auctions. But, if you add the shipping and transfer fees to the price of a common rifle or pistol, you can buy it cheaper locally. I buy antiques and keep a "want list" with several dealers and individuals in a 150 mile radius of where I live. When I do buy something, I usually save $100-$300 over what I would pay on the auction sites, sometimes more. 0 -
Understand that there is a zero listing fee. A seller can repeatedly offer his item for sale at zero cost to him until the item sells. My last three purchases was on auction. A friend tipped me off on two of them. They had been listed through a two month period. The third item took several weeks to get the money together so I could place the bid and it had also been listed through a two month period. I'm looking for specific items (my specifics often change) and they take time to locate. I think of "the marketplace" as bringing a buyer and seller together and this requires patience from the seller. It's no different at gun shows. The high priced guns show up at every show with hopes that the buyer for "that" gun will come along. Eventually the market will come up to his price. I have many guns that are not for sale (but they are for sale for "this" price). Probably only 1/100 of 1% of buyers would give that price and I'd be saddened if it did sell.
Fair pricing is in the eye of the beholder. I've been told that I stole all three of these guns. Why did they not sell over a two month period? You tell me. On one of these auctions the seller attempted to "pull" the auction after being tipped off on what he had. He couldn't because I had meet the reserve. He was not pleased to see the gun go. My FFL suggested that I overpaid and that I could have purchased new for that price. New wasn't what I was after. I was after that specific gun. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. It seems like the seller is not taking into account the price of the transfer or shipping.
My impression is that on ebay (and yes I know this is not ebay) the auctions take into account the shipping price.
For example I was looking at a power washer recently and if you added the price it sold for and shipping it was very much in line with the retail price, minus a few bucks. Thus the incentive to buy on e bay.
I am assuming that a lot of sellers here list the guns at the same price they list for at their shows or shops, and that is just not going to generate many sales, IMO.
