Fox Gun Co. Baltimore Maryland
Does anyone know anything about this gun. It is a double barrel shotgun. Damascus barrels. No hammers. I would like to know a value as well as any history.

A.H. Fox started in Baltimore as the Fox Gun Co in 1896 for just a few years before moving on to Philadelphia.
These very early Foxes are of some interest to Fox collectors. Condition is most important to determine value.

Your gun was made between 1896 and 1900 and is quite rare.
From the Blue Book:
"Mr. Ansley H. Fox first started manufacturing shotguns in circa 1896. This first company was called the Fox Gun Co. located in Baltimore, MD. Relatively few guns were made and surviving spoecimens today are very rare. After this venture, he was employed by the Baltimore Gun Co. for several years (circa 1900-1903). Following this period, he formed the Philadelphia Gun Co. where the predecessors to the A.H. Fox Gun Co models were manufactured."
Early Fox shotguns are certainly collectable....and I should think the Baltimore guns particularly so.
As always, condition is very important.
I wouldn't even venture to guess it's worth, but were it mine, I think it would be worth paying for a professional appraisal.
And, please, don't even think of shooting it!0 -
This gun is in very good condition. The wood was in three pieces when I got it and I had to have it repaired. By a professional. Very nice job. The person whom I got the gun from had been shooting it until then. So I know it is shootable. I am aware of not being able to shoot modern ammo in it and I don't intend on shooting it. I wrote to the Antique Road Show about it, but got no response. The two shows that they had that were close enough for me to go to did not allow firarms. Who would know enough about this gun to appraise it? 0 -
What part of the country are you in?
