I just bought a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in 45/70...the sights are ok, but with my eye sight getting older I was wondering if a scope wouldn't be benificial...any thoughts and what type of scope..make model etc..

looking at nikon buckmaster, leupold vari-x or burris fullfield any opinions of these. thinking of buying one for a heavy recoiling rifle. all seem to be within the same price range. will not be shooting this much and no expensive hunting trips in the near future. please don't tell me about the high end range of scopes, i know they are much better, i just can't afford one of those at this time. 0 -
The Maxwell Smith Co. of Los Angles, CA introduced it's first scope in about 1946 or 1947. They ceased operation in the very late '40's or very early '50's. It appears they built 5 models over those few years. To id. yours, or give you more specific information I would need model number or stats, like magnification, precise length, weight, tube diameter etc. Values range from about $100 to about $200 depending on model and condition. 0
