this gun is one of 11 that came in together. i am not a SMITH expert. finish is about 60% or better. its in NRA GOOD or better condition. the bottom of the left grip panel is broken/cracked. the gun functions, locks up, and index`s correctly.
when was it made??? what model/variant is it??? is it rare or of intrest to collectors??? what is its value??? best regards, mike.

If you have a lot of S & W's to research and price, it would be in your best interest to get hold of the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson". It's out in a second edition now, and it's a first rate reference and price guide.
Being in the business it's surprising you don't have it already? Believe you can write it off on your taxes as a business expense.0 -
i have the "STANDARD CATALOG OF SMITH AND WESSON" 2ND EDITION by SUPICA & NAHAS. its been helpful, and i am slowly but surely working my way through it. so far, i have learned that i have a lot to learn about S&W`S. things that an expert on these arms would instantly identify and notice stll escape me. i intend to put these guns up for auction here on GB, but i do not want to misidentify them, or through my lack of knowledge in this area, misrepresent these pieces to potential bidders. i have arrived at some answers of my own, but respectfully request assistance in this regard. please help!!!

Most properly called the Model No. 1 1/2 Single Action. Yours was made in the early 1880's. These do have some collector interest, but the big dollars are in the long barrelled pieces. Yours is fairly common, and would bring $150 or so.

I have one going to a large auction of "old" guns on May 30. I'll let you know what it brings. I have a $100.00 reserve on it. From your discription, it sound as if they are similar in condition and spec's.
