Spring/strut? The forend is removed either by simply pulling it downward at the tip or unscrewing it (forget which on the 511). Then open the action, tip the barrels forward past normal and remove from receiver...

There is a cocking plunger and spring attached to the barrel underlug but it does not have to be removed to take off the barrels.

Not without seeing it. They should come off pretty easily. With the action open, tilt the barrels as far as you can. This will be beyond their normal opening position. With the receiver supported in a padded bench vise, place a piece of wood against the muzzles and tap rearward lightly with a mallet.

no luck.. again, this is a springfield 511. the plunger & spring assembly under the bbls is a different design than on a 311 savage. the spring is about 4" long with a short plunger toward the muzzel and a longer 1 toward the breech end. i do appreciate your help & thoughts...
