Heavy Barrel or Boss???

Looking into the 22-250 again, My 2 favorites are the Savage bvss or
the Browning stalker with boss?
Any suggestions??

  i am partial to the bull barrel. if you are not going to still hunt,you may want the boss. the bull barrel does not make the rifle more accurate, it dissapates the heat better. the savage bvss in 22-250 is an excellent varmint weapon.......but the 6mm rules. my 2 cents. nice to have you in the forum.

  I don't think you'd see much benefit with the BOSS on a .22-250. You will with a heavy barrel. The BOSS is more for hard recoiling calibres.

  The BOSS is offered on the .223 which is not a high recoiling caliber. The purpose of the BOSS is to tune the vibration of the barrel so that the bullet exits the barrel when at the optimum point, usually at a nodal point of the vibration wave. Previously some shooting had barrels trimmed down trying to get the best barrel length for a bullet, the problem was that 1) you could trim too far and 2)the optimum length for one bullet weight was usually not the same for another weight. With the BOSS you can tune for a load, reference it from the calibrations, and tune for another load.
  
  American Shooter recently had a show featuring Browning BOSS shootoff. Impressive.

  I wouldnt want the boss that reduces recoil, I belive they make one called conv. recoil, whis is what I would buy after making the choice of HBAR or Boss.

  A friend of mine bought a A Bolt Browning 30-06 with Boss, shot 1'1/2" at 100 yards and by turning the Boss got it down to holes touching, That thing really works. He all so bought one in 300 win Mag, did not shoot it, took it back the barrel was a 26" and with the boss it was real barrel heavy.

  It's still a pencil barrel even if it does have a boss. they are unreasonably loud and inconsiderate to the guy next to you.
  
  A bull barrel will shoot more accurately than a pencil barrel in the same caliber, due to it's "tonnage" of steel surrounding the bore, controling vibrations more effectively than a thinner barrel. That's why benchrest rifles all have heavy barrels.
  
  I have a partner who shoots a boss, and I shoot a sendero. His gun won't outshoot mine, but mine will hold a group longer as my barrel is dissipating heat faster than his. Even though he has controled vibration, his thinner barrel warps or "distorts" faster than mine does, and the shots will start to fly a few rounds sooner.
  
  If you want a break, then buy the savage heavy barrel, and have a break installed. Now you have the best of both worlds,...not that a 22-250 warrants the use of a break.
  
  FYI, I heard they will stop producing the boss due to some lawsuits filed resulting from hearing damage. That is what I heard from the gun store owner, so take that for what it's worth, I didn't personaly hear it from the rep.
  
  why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
