I just ordered a Yugo Tokarev and am new to that style of gun. Does anyone feel like offering suggestions as to ammo and a good holster.
I am told the Polish ammo is of poor quality and so I ordered Romanian surpluss ammo to get used to the gun. My question is in regards to hp or sp ammo. Is there anything out there that would make this a good ccw gun?0 -

Sellier and bellot is 7.49/50 rounds, brass cased, boxer primed non corrosive, reliable.
The fired brass is worth .10 per round if you can find it....sometimes more on ebay.

Hey Rich, do the math, buy it at CTD, shoot it and then sell the brass at a profit? I am in the wrong business.[:)]

You'll want to watch the adjectives used by some sellers! "Plentiful and cheap", true enough. The cheaper stuff tends to be military surplus, corrosive, and non-reloadable. The non-corrosive, reloadable stuff tends to not be so cheap. This is a good cartridge, and the CZ-52 is a good pistol. You'll find other pistols in this caliber on the surplus market that are also worth a look, including Tokarevs.0 -

50 rounds times 10 cents per round = $5.00 If you can find the brass, the pistol throws it 30 feet or better. New starline brass is 6.60 a box if you buy 500 pieces.

I was handling a Mauser "Broomhandle" (7.63mm--virtually the same cartridge) and your post crossed my mind again and I thought I would add my opinion that, due to the large importation of such pistols as the CZ-52, this cartridge will now be a long time dying. I would not be surprised to see one of the larger ammo manufacturers begin loading it before too long, and all of the imported pistols must add up to a market demand worth filling. It actually was loaded in the U.S. at one time, but the Broomhandle was just about the only pistol then that used it, and the demand dropped off as they became scarcer and collectable. That also changed with the massive importation of those pistols from China in the '80s and '90s. So, I wouldn't let fear of the ammo becoming unavailable stop me from buying a pistol I liked. Go for it. 0 -
Also if push comes to shove, the brass can be made from .223 brass. I have done that and it shoots fine from both the Broomhandle and the CZ-52. It's just time consuming, a good passtime for long winter nights. Just my .02 worth.

Brass can also be made from 9MM Winchester Mag. The loading used in the CZ52 and in the Tokarevs is just a little hot for the C96 Broomhandles. 0
