Lead Bullets in the Glock
Hello. I think that I remember reading that you should not fire lead bullets through a Glock pistol. Is this true? Why does this matter? Thanks!

The plated bullets are fine as long as you can't scrape the plating off with your finger nail.
The reason glock highly recomends not using lead bullets is because of the unique rifling. This rifling is polygonal which is not a standard rifling. This is done to provide a better seal around the jacketed bullet, thus increasing proficiency.
Lead bullets with this type of rifling causes buildup, which increases case pressure. In do time enough accumulation of lead residue will cause enough case pressure to damage the pistol and/or the user.
If you prefer to use lead bullets, it is highly recomended to purchase an aftermarket barrel with standard rifling then you will be fine.
These are general recomendations from Glock and there trained armorers.

i shoot uspsa with several other guys that shoot lead bullets in their glock .40 calibers and they say they have no problems. then again they clean their barrels after each match. btw a quick way to clean lead from a pistol barrel is to wrap fine steel wool around an old cleaning brush and push it though the barrel a few times. 0 -
I'd never heard of this before coming on this board. In the past (7 years ago or so) I'd shot at least 500rds of lead round nose through my gen1 Glock 21 with out any problems. Maybe I cleaned it after every 200rds, not sure. I never had a problem. If you should shoot em, I'd recommend cleaning your barrel real good after each shooting session.

Thanks for the input. Since I am fastidious about cleaning I'll shoot some lead and clean afterwards. Thanks!

I shoot nothing *but* (my own) reloads in my Glocks. Including some lead bullets. What problem? 0
