Thanks for the reply. The topic is locked and I don't want to get into trouble by continuing on about this past the lock. The fanny pack is small. I can get a Walther .380 in it and muscule in a Ruger SP 101 with factory grips but no larger. It is inconspicuous too. Your answers makes me think I should be thinking in terms of the Glock in .357 SIG or 40 Smith & Wesson. It may be a while as I have another class to pay for. But this really helped. Excellent advice from everyone. As to the Glock Kimber comparison. I wasn't trying to compare them. What happened was my friend said, here, you want to shoot this? (the Kimber $1000 pistol). After running a few mags of ammo through it, I saw this black pistol and asked if it was a Glock. It was a full sized model, I believe, in .45. I was really impressed by the way it handled and contrary to what some have said, I saw nothing wrong with the trigger pull at all. I thought it was nice. Anyway, I'll let you know what I end up with. I have Kahr in 40 and Smith and Wesson in a compact .40 on the list too (I'm looking for something smaller than the SIG 239 or the Rugers, I have one of each).

Concerning that fanny pack, I wouldn't make a holster stop me from buying the gun I want. And god man it's a fanny pack! [:D] No one wears those things anymore. [:o)]
I'm not sure who it was that mentioned the 10mm variant of the Glock. Anyways I have a friend that has a 10mm baby Glock, not sure the model# but he also has drop in 40 & 357sig barrels for it. He loves it at shoots alot of competitions with that gun.
I know how it is financially, I work part time at a gunshop/range which is turning out to be a pretty expensive part time job. Anyways I find myself taking 2-3 months to pay off most purcahases. This whole online gun buying thing really doesn't work for me.
I bought my Glock 21 my senior year of college. I paid $600 back in 1997 for it. I probably got ripped off but always wanted a dbl stack .45. About a year ago I traded the glock for a S&W model 629 which I later traded to another shop for a HKUSP. Well I then found I couldn't shoot the USP 45 worth a crud so I eventually traded back for my Gock 21. Same gun same serial number. [:p] That was probably a $200 learning experience. But I never learn.
I think I'm stuck with it for life now. No point in trading it off again. I guess my experience has been that you can always trade off or sell guns on consignment at a later date if you find you really don't like something you bought.

I wasn't going to say anything, but since the resident fashion guru, drobs, did mention it, I will too.
Most crooks are not fooled by a fanny pack, most of then know that you're more than likely concealing a pistol. As was previously mentioned, a pancake or inside-the-pants holster would provide a better level of concealment, and might even be a little more comfortable.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, no one wears a fanny pack. Actually its that little one I wear in the front. Its inconspicuouos there. I'm a full time teacher going to graduate school (no student loans, just cash) kids, house, and child support. So, money is tight. A lot of people have told me to stay away from anything in .45 with less than a 4.5" barrel. But I have been told that the Glock in a compact .40 or .357 would be fine. My other choices are the Kahr in .40 or the Smith &Wesson compact in .40.0 -

Of course, you are quite right. And that pancake holster is something I had better look into. Anyway, the "fannypack" thing had to do with the fact that a guy who looks a lot like me, who likes to hike in state parks even in the summer and even though he HATES the heat, so he often wears what amounts to a t shirt, swim trunks, and tennis shoes. It would be difficult to attach any kind of holster to beltless trunks but one might fit in the pocket. Also, some of these parks do not allow firearms even though their trails are remote, not in the city, and crimes like two rapes and one murder have occured in one in particular. So concealment is the order of the day. The other hikers, mostly older people and "nature lovers" never notice the fanny pack or anything else. I guess I should have explained this better. Pancake holster huh? I need to check that out. Oh yeah, I tried a holster with my Ruger SP 101 but was too heavy for the beltless shorts and about pulled my drawers down...truly a scary thought.0 -

I guess if it works go with it. I used to wear one of those fanny packs when I wore basketball shorts, which had no pockets. Was usually able to conceal the pack under a t-shirt. Something else to keep in mind, I've seen alot of these cargo hiking pants that have the zip off leggs, some of these look to be made out of swimsuit material most of them have a belt included. For using a holster maybe try wearing a light cloth belt?
Also I have a good friend that was big into backpacking day trips & weeks long trips. For day trips, he had a pretty good size fanny pack that carried 2 water bottles plus a 1st aid kit. One last question, this fanny pack of yours, is it a true fanny pack designed to carry a gun or something you're making do with?
