Misfires and duds: Safety
Well i was at the range plinking w/ my sks and 1 round of my wolf ammo was a dud. However i do think that the primer went off. WHat do i do w/ it. I let it sit for a while and took it out and buried it near the range. I know this may sound stupid but any help would be nice. Thanks

I'm glad you're OK, and I'm glad you didn't experiance a delayed ignition with the cartridge out of the chamber.
Misfire procedures are usually to:
1. Place the weapon on safe, place the weapon on a falt surface, with the barrel pointed downrange.
2.Alert the range safety officer.
3. Wait approx. 15 minutes.
4. Carefully open the action, remove the misfired round. do not allow the round to be ejected in a manner that allows it to strike a hard surface.
5. Some ranges have a 5 gallon bucket of water or a coffee can of oil for destroying misfired ammo. I prefer to submerge the round in some oil (10 weight machinist's oil) for 8 to 10 days, giving the oil a chance to penetrate the round and nullify the powder/primer.
You can do this at home if you'd like, just be careful transporting the round, and after about 10 days you can pull the bullet with pliers and throw the components away.

I pull my duds and salvage components. Ususually it is the primer. If the powder is ok, I reuse; if not I pitch it. At very least the bullets are reusable. I myself wouldn't bother with an SKS bullet though, too cheap. Burying it is fine, throwing it in the garbage is too.

If any of my .22 shells dont fire at my house i just point them bullet down in the ground. is this the best thing to do? 0 -

Yep, point them at the ground, that's much better than at your house, less holes to putty up come winter!
Might as well throw .22's in the trash....makes life interesting for the guys at the transfer station.

According to the last "American Rifleman" primers are only subjected to a temporary loss. I have no knowledege re: always thought that WD-40 or water would render the primers unusable. Guess I was wrong. Apparently the primers are "active" after a drying out period.
I personally would hand them over to the "Range Master"-talk to him first and obey all safety precauctions.
