KALES-WIEN Scope....Info?
Anybody know anything at all about this brand of scope? This is an older one and appears to be a Model "Helia 39L2" Anybody? Seems to mimic a 3x9 but brighter than a 40 but not quite a 50......Help! Thanks!

Couldn't find anything specific about the "39L2" model, but Stroebel in his book notes that "the Helia-labeled scopes were imported from 1958 until 1963 from Austria by Stoeger" also they were considered "premium" quality and were expensive. They were later picked up by another importer and sold under just the "Kahles" name even though they were the same scopes. 0 -

You did Great! Went to my library and took out my 1958 edition of "Shooter's Bible" and checked the Index. Kahles Variable Power Telescopic Sights are found on Pages 286 through 288. Leupold is a few pages later.....but they don't have a Variable Power model...in 1958, anyway!
Thanks much for getting me into the right years! There is two models, the Helia 27, 2.3x7x36, and the Helia 39, which is a 3x9x50. The Helia 39 came with 6 different reticules. Two Reticles were considered to be "standard" and were the stocked ones, while the other four were "special order" and required a 10 week waiting period to be shipped from Austria. This one has the "Command Post" type, which was a "special order reticle."
The "L2" was a Featherweight Model of aluminum weighing 12.3 ounces while the "S2" is a steel tube Model weighing 16.4 ounces. Price was the same for either model.
The Leupold scope that is the most expensive model is priced at $99.50. Interesting that the Kahles Helia 39 is priced at $98.00 while other models of the Kahles go up to $105.00! Those were 1958 Dollars when a $50 or $60 a week job was a pretty good one.....WoW!!!
There is a great cutaway diagram of the scope and all kinds of specifications......
