I'M NOT A REAL BIG HANDGUN FAN BUT WOULD LIKE TO KEEP ONE
HANDY.THEY SEEM TO BE PRICED RIGHT,BUT ARE THEY
DEPENDABLE AND IS AMMO READILY AVAILABLE?
I KNOW THERE ARE MANY ECONOMICLY PRICED MODERN HANDGUNS
OUT THERE,BUT TO ME THE OLDER,THE BETTER.

These are an excellent value! The 7.62X25 is gaining in popularity and can always be found at gunshows (around here anyway) and on-line. They were the side arm of the "Check" (sp - I know) military and very dependable and fairly accurate and the 7.62X25 is a pretty hot round. These are becoming popular enough that manufacturers are actually coming out with accessories for them ... barrels (also avaiable in 9mm as a drop in unit) grips, extended slide stop ... I personally am still hoping for a decent set of sights. As with the PA-63, a pistol like it could not be manufactured in the US for anywhere near what these are selling for ...

they are heavy, bulky, awkward things. The Star BM 9mm compact, $220, is a far better buy. The big frame Star Model B 9mm is a better buy, $120 or so, too, just because of the manipulation of the gun and the cost-availability of 10c per rd 9mm milsurp ammo. 0 -
The CZ 52 is a rugged military fiearm, it has one draw back and that is the firing pin, the hot load used in the weapon have caused pins to break. The barrels that can be purchased for the weapon are 9mm x 17mm (.380), 9mm x 18mm (Makarov), 9mm x 19mm (Luger), someone told me a few months ago that 7.65 bottlenecks and 7.63mm Mauser barrels were also being made for this weapon, all of these rounds will still fit in the 7.62mm x 25mm magazine. I have never heard of the hot ammo breaking the firing pins, I have shot much of the S&B factory and assorted SMG ammo without a breakage from it. However, the pins are extremely brittle. Dry fire the pistol a couple times and you will have a broken firing pin for certain. The S&B current production 7.62x25 is 7.49/50 rounds from cheaperthandirt.com and is non corrosive and boxer primed. I have seen the brass sell for this much on ebay. BTW you will not find the brass as the pistol throws it a country mile. I would not consider them heavy, bulky or awkward rather sleek and sophisticated and much ahead of their time as far as design.

I myself think it's silly to pass judgement on a $130 weapon, sight unseen. So I bought one. Wonderful gun. Easy to maintain, accurate, sturdy, inexpensive. Plus the historical value, after all, it's a 50 year old relic of the Cold War... I'm not sure I'd want to shoot 60gr. FMJ bullets in a firefight, but for plinking, it's sweet. It's said that the high velocity rounds can shoot through some early body armor and car doors. From what I understand, the principal problems have been with a bad batch of 7.62x25 milsurp ammo from Bulgaria, made in 1952. (Other years OK) Get a spare firing pin, not too expensive, and that's the part that usually goes first.

Hello Guys, I am confused now about what kind of pistol I've got. Bought it VERY cheap 6-8 months ago as a CZ-50? Now I'm wondering if it is a CZ-52, or maybe something else entirely. It came with two mags and a little skimpy shoulder rig that I mostly scrapped, keeping only the holster so it won't rattle around in the glove box. It is black or darkest blue with black plastic grips. Left or port side of slide says "CZ" in a circle, then "CESKAZBROJOVKA" Below that "NAR.PODNIK STRAKONICE" then "7.65" in a circle. Has a tiny griffon or dragon stamped on the trigger guard. Mag release button aft of trigger...decocker switch(???) at top of grip. On the right or starboard side of slide is 6-digit s/n? 6768xx and on barrel is C575xx so apparently multi-parts gun. Forward of trigger on fram is a button (don't know what this is for - disassembly I guess) Little single-stack magazine holds 7 or 8 rounds...Fixed sights, rear fits in dovetail on slide...mag has black plastic butt. Overall a decent-looking and fit little pistol...shoots .32 auto??? Please, what model and ammo??? Thanks. Best, Jim

CZ-50 and cz-70 are smallish size .32 acp pistols the 70 is a slight redesighn of the 50. CZ-52 is a much larger frame pistol which uses 7.62x25 ammo and a roller type locking system. Totally different guns.

i have to agree with chunkstyle(nice screen name). with alot of guns that are priced that low, why not get one and try it? i've done so with many guns, and if they are unsatifactory, i sell them for exactly what i paid for them. no money lost, just a lesson learned. and i love the marine comment, lol. cody
