Shotgun for Trap/Sporting Clays

Looking to get back into shooting some clays and need to make a good shotgun purchase. I haven't shot in quite a while so lots of new and different gun choices out there.

What do you folks recommend. I know some of these guns can get pricey, I'd like my first one to under $1,000 if possible.

Also looking for comments or O/U versus auto. never shot an O/U myself and I see so many clay shooters using them. In the past I always shot a 1100, it was also my hunting run and seems like less recoil, but I know there are all kinds of recoil stocks out there now.

    Ruger Red Label. If you want beautiful, try the earlier one's. If you want screw-in chokes, go for the later guns.

    And there are others, but Ruger makes a fine product.

    For trap your 1100 with a 30" full choke will work fine maybe add a adj trap stock and trigger maybe or full trap barrel
    For clays you need all the differant chokes and change them on the field so with a o/u you do not need to switch them as much
    I like light 25-26" barreled o/u or sxs ,Browning,Ithaca,winchester
    under 1000 I dont know maybe Ithaca sxs mod 200e,winchester101,never shot a ruger but heard some good thing on older guns You might find a browning superposed that someone butchered and put tubes in you could get for around your money

    I used to have a Ruger Red Label all-weather over-under and a Ruger Gold-label SxS, and after trying and trying I finally gave up on both of them. I can break ALMOST as many using my 1100 .410 as I could with either of those two doubles. I shot a LOT of sporting clays (not so much trap), and even more skeet thrown from some cheap throwers.
    The one I hit the best with is my Benelli Super Black Eagle. I originally bought the all-weather Red Label for duck hunting, but again, the Benelli did better hands down. Plus, it was more versatile and I use it for all shotgun situations (I don't even have another 12 gauge right now, just it and the 1100 .410)
    Was it the guns? I doubt it, but the proof was in the numbers.

    I guess my main point is don't feel you need to get some fancy gun (especially to switch to a different style), if you used to do well with your 1100, then get another one. Or, if you are going to hunt some too, you can barely scratch in under your $1,000 budget with a Benelli - you won't be sorry!

    You can not go wrong with a Rem, 1100. Get a trap model wth 30 in. barrel and high rib. For sporting clays if you prefer a shorter barrel, you may purchase a 26 or 28 in.

    Last year I sold a 1100 trap for $300.00 It Kicked the snot out of me, bought a Browning over and under Trap SXT Love it, and after letting 2 of my friends shoot it they each bought one and love theirs. I paid a lot more for it than you want to, Look at some used guns, I have seen Remington 870 trap guns go for around $300.00. Just last week my local gun store had a charles daly trap over and under he sold for $675.00, dont get in a hurry. hope this helps

    I like the 1100 but as a suggestion, go to your local range and rent-
    borrow several different guns. At the range that I attend, they will
    allow you to use different arms at no cost. Also, many fellow shooters
    will allow you to borrow their gun. Just have to try them out and see what turns your crank. 101

    BROWNING GOLD less bite than the 1100 plus speed feed load the tube and it will put one in battery for you if the bolt is locked back

    dont laugh people but i have an old charles daily venture over/under
    no chokes, full throttle all the way. its only about a 600.00 gun. but it fits nice and it throws the lead out where i aim. my point being, shoulder a bunch of different types of guns, pick what fits you best. upgrade later as you get addicted to the sport.
