Ruger 22/45 and Browning Buck Mark
What's the difference between a Bull barrel and a regualr barrel? I know they look different but what else is different? Also I've noticed some weapons called slab side and target. Please explain what are the attributes of each. Trying to decide which one to buy. Browning feels good in my hand but I would like to know what the barrel differences amount too. 22/45 isn't bad.

Bull barrel only means that there is an excessive amount of
metal around the bore(hole through the barrel) to accomplish
several functions(i.e. weight the barrel down to make a steadier
shooting platform or to decrease overheating as it takes more rounds
to heat up more metal).
Slabside is when they take a bull barrel(fat & ROUND) and machine the sides of the barrel flat to take away a little of the weight(similar to what fluting a barrel does by milling grooves down the sides of the barrel).0 -
Its also been said that the Bull BARREL last much longer. Both are fine Handguns but the Ruger 22/45 feels more like the 1911 in the hand.I along with others prefer it for that reason.
Best!!

I have a stainless 22/45 with 5 1/2 in. target taper barrel. I have shot thousands of rounds thru it. It is the gun i choose to carry when I stroll around the farm and I love plinking with it. It is more accurate than I am. Ruger makes several configurations of this gun. I would suggest a model with adjustable sights. The Browning Buckmark is also a fine pistol. Rugers usually cost less. 0 -
I opted for the Buckmark Challange. fits my hand better, so I shoot better. The Buckmark is probably a little fussier, ie. does not like to be really dirty, but in other respects I find it suits me well. Accuracy is all I could want, and fit and finish are just fine. 0 -
the ruger govt competition slabside is the most accurate .22 pistol i have ever shot. although a bit pricey for a .22 (400.00 includes rings and base), it is a real shooter. 0 -
I've had 3 Ruger's w\the looong bull barrels,but my slab-side out shoots them all.
IT'S WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT MAKES THEM AFRAID.0 -
He Dog,
My ruger don't like to be really dirty either
. It starts double tapping and misfiring and jamming if you don't clean it every brick or so..0 -
Both the Ruger and Browning 22s are fine pistols and you can't go wrong with either of them. I currently have three Ruger Target Models with bull barrels that I like. One is Stainless but I like the blue ones best. I had a tapered barrel Ruger at one time but got rid of it.I prefer bull barrels on my handguns.
If you don't care where you are going, you can't get lost.0
