Can I sell a flintlock pistol online?

I have an 18th Century flintlock pistol that I want to sell, but I'm not a licensed firearms dealer. What Federal regulations pertain to the sale of my 230-year old firearm? DRM

    Hi Steglitz and welcome

    Yes you can sell it on the net as long as the people know that you are not a dealer and in order to receive it would be sent to an FFL dealer by them, just to keep things safe even though you don`t need a dealer cause it is that old...

    I don't understand what the Ranger is trying to tell you? Think a overload of the 'SNUFFER" has affected his thought processes.
    The bottom line is that you don't have to go through a FFL licensee to either sell or ship your 230 year old flintlock pistol!
    I would ship it by FedEx or UPS when you send it to the buyer. Just to be on the safe side though!

    As far as I know there are only like 2 or 3 states? where you would have to ship a flintlock to an FFL dealer. Kalifornia comes to mind on this one but I believe that since the age of your pistol is so old that a C&R license should take care of that however don't quote me on that one.

    sorry about that, snuff hasn`t gotten to me, I just had a long day at work...I know because of the age of the gun, a dealer is not needed, I figured just to play it safe cause of the problems with terror and stuff to ship it to a dealer, thats all

    I recently sold a 15 year old caplock pistol online, there were only a few places that you couldn't ship them to, and I also required the person to make a copy of their D.L. and send to me to verify age. Going through a FFL would be the safest way, but likely unneeded unless you are sending to a problem area (tight restrictions)
    I'd like to see it, if you list it, post the item number on here...

    As the others told you, you do not need a FFL dealer to ship the flintlock pistol but as they also stated use UPS or FEDEX. As to where you can ship I do know that you cannot ship it to Canada or New York. I do Rev War reenactments and we cannot take a pistol of any kind to NY unless registered. There was an Eastern national encampment sponcered by the NMLRA in NY and they told us to not bring handguns of any type because it was against NY law! So was black powder! Needless to say that Eastern did not go over too well. Also to use them in Canada for a reenactment their is a lot of red tape and it is almost impossible to get it approved. Never tried CA but I expect it would be a hassle as well due to being clasified a handgun even though it is 230 years old. If you do list it on line, drop me a line so that I can see it and drool a while! I might even try to win the auction if it fits into my line of history! Good luck.[8D]
