Preban ?.

I bought an AR-15 and was looking to put a collapsibe stock on it. How do I find out if it is a preban or not? Any info would be helpful. Thanx.

  It is common for people to misidentify AR-15-TYPE rifles as AR-15 rifles. You do not even mention if this is a Colt rifle. IF it is a Colt AR-15, it is Pre-Ban, because the AR-15 was discontinued in the early 1980s when the AR-15A2 came out. The site to which I usually refer people for the Pre-Ban serial number charts is down right now. I will try to post it later.

  The "Pre-Ban" serial number site is back up. This website gives "Pre-Ban" serial numbers for most military-type semi-automatic firearms:

  Again I say, it your rilfe is really a Colt AR-15, and not a Sporter or Match Target, etc., it will be "Pre-Ban."
