Remington Etronx
Are the remington etronx systems reliable? Will it still be working say 5 - 10 years from now (assuming a fair amount of use - say 400 - 500 rounds a year)? I know that throws a lot of variables into the question, but there are some pretty good bargains on these rifles right now and I was wondering how good the bargain really is. Thanks for any input.

Reading up on this gun and it sounds like a smart piece and the elec. ignition while different makes a lot of sense.
My concern is the guns require the use of Etronx ammo. Now while you can get Etronx primers for custom loading, my concern is will the ammo or the primers be around in the future or will this be some passing fad???0 -
It has been around for several years and no one, including Rem. has rushed with more models to fill the demand. Interesting, but likely a passing fad. 0 -

Voere (Austria) marketed a electronic rifle in '92. Finding ammo is now a problem, mainly because of import restrictions. The cartrige is also caseless. I have a number of these rifles but not that model. Duck, at under $600., I am interested. Who has them?

duck is right about the under 600 price i have seen them at auction here with a buy now for that amount. although that is still not cheap enough to get me to buy one 0 -

I suppose that if the rifle or a variant of its etronx system were to win some prestigous matches that you would see more calibers. The rifle has a very fast lock time but have heard that its trigger has a lot to be desired for[:(]. Solve all that and "walah" you have a winner.[;)]

I will agree with the theory behind the rifles ignition system. There exists 5 "modes" of vibration in any rifle. The first 3 modes can be eliminated by bedding the rifle, floating the barrel, and trueing the action. These first 3 modes are the lower fequency vibrations. the remaining 2 modes are high frequency, which are usually caused by metal to metal impact. The impact causing the 4th mode, is the impact of firing pin to primer. The time it takes for the pin to strike the primer, once the sear is tripped, is called lock time. Faster lock time is sought after in competition rifles due to less barrel movement between the the time the rigger is released and the bullet exits the barrel, which will result in smaller groups. The elimination of the 4th mode of vibration, would also serve to improve the group size when no firing pin strike is present. Not to mention the extreme speed of the lock time of an electronic ignition system.
That being said, I don't foresee the rifles making it anywhere. As has been stated, there is a whole new variable introduced into these rifles which can be a cause of failure,........electronics. I just don't beleive that in some of the extreme conditions in which rifles are hunted, that the system would be un-flawed. I also feel that Remignton reached for the stars with their original price, and probably destroyed interest in the product by overreaching. I'll stick with my firing pins and springs for 1/2 the price.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

$600! For a gun that won't work without a battery? I almost dropped my cellphone into the shifter of my hybrid (gas/electric) car! As soon as studies have shown that game animals realize they're s'posed to drop dead faster because of decreased lock time; I'll borrow one.
