HK 91 Conversion Kits?
I'm wondering if there's a conversion kit for the HK 91 to turn it into either a 9mm or a .223... prefer 9mm. The 308 is just too expensive to enjoy shooting. Do they make magazines to go along with it or do you buy the new caliber and a fit piece?

Huh? I've seen 308 as cheap as 13c a shot, so how is spending $1000 on a conversion unit (for 10c a shot) 9mm going to help any? At a savings of $30 a thousand, it'd take 40,000 rds to pay for itself. The .22 conversion unit for the 223 HK (ie, no barrel liner needed) was $500, back before the import ban, 94, crime bill,etc. So $1000 would be cheap today, for a 22-308unit. I dont think that such a 308-223 or 9mm conversion exists, anyway. You can get a single shot adapter, for .32 ACP, .30 carbine, etc, but no rapidfire will be possible, and those rds actually cost more than 308 ammo does. 0 -
I've seen several conversion kits for HK-91 (308) to .22LR ... prices have ran $400 - $700 depending on condition and completeness of the conversion ... I guess for sighting paractice it would be ok but it seems kind of silly ... IMHO of course
If ammo costs are really a concern, consider reloading ... if its something you enjoy you can really save!

I just found battle packs that were reasonable enough... still, a member of our group brings out an HK 94, and I really like it. Perhaps I could try to trade it.

There are no conversion units for the HK Group I weapons (7.62mm or 9mm) or Group II wepons (5.56mm) other than for .22LR. There is clearly no way to convert an HK-91 to 9mm (without installing a new barrel)- how would you get a 9mm bullet through a .30 caliber barrel? The .22LR conversion units use barrel inserts to convert 9mm and .308 (not needed in .223) rifles and will function just fine in both full auto and semi automatic (a converted HK G-3 is great fun to fire in .22LR) and offers very inexpensive shooting...of course the rifle is still very heavy!

.22 conversion practice tranlates well into skill with the 223, but not with the 308. Since the 223 suffices, this is just another good reason to not bother with the 308. 0 -
I don't see exactly what the last comment refered to. I have 22 caliber conversions for my HK-91 w/ PSG-1 trigger assembly and Series 70 Gold Cup and use both to work on sight picture and trigger control as well as general plinking. 0 -
Yep, but it's called an HK 94 or an MP5. Neither of which will solve your problem. Is surplus ammo expensive where you are? Have a rummage around this site. See what you can fuind that fits your budget.

The recoil and blast of the 308 is so much greater than the .22 that practice with the latter doesn't help the former much at all. The 223,however, can be readily "muffled",with a "can" that is small and lw enough that the M4 and such a suppressor still make a very handy package. I've yet to make a "run" across the targets, and against the timer,with the .22 unit that I couldn't match with the 223,usually with the first try. 0 -

www.cheaperthandirt.com has portuguese surplus ammo in 200 round battle packs for $29.97. Thats less than $.15 per shot.
