If that was illegal I would be on death row! Now we are talking about localities that allow hi cap mags at all.

cbxjeffIt's too late for me, save yourself.

    ALS55,

Its legal with some exceptions depending on which state you live.

Generally if you purchased the Hi cap mag from a legitimate source in your own state and intend to use it in your own state it is legal.

What state do you live in?

For several years after the ban, many of the gun companies produced new, post-ban guns and supplied them (sold them new from the factory) with pre-ban high capacity magazines. Some companies still do. So if it wasn't legal, they would have been shut down a long time ago. Right now, 2003 dated production AK's (so marked on the receiver) come with 30rd-40rd magazines from the importer, case in point.

Again, local or state laws may restrict pre-ban high capacity magazine use in certain places, but the federal law does not.

AL, you should be ok in Illinois otherwise you would see alot of gunshops going out of business for being busted.

Good subject. I was just reading about this very subject today in the general assembly webpage.

Our lawmakers are trying to outlaw highcap mags ( anything over 10 rounds). Lookup this law they are trying to pass, #SB1195 monikered as the Daley Gun Ban. It's not pretty. They want to ban Semi-autos pistols, rifles and shotguns. Also ban anything larger than a bore diameter of .50 inch, which means most all shotguns, which means, ya can't hunt cause that's all they allow here.
But good news is that a politician is trying to pass handgun hunting for Deer, as long as the barrel is 4in. or larger and has muzzle energy of 500pounds.

Boy I can't wait to retire and get the H@#$ outta here, like 300 miles north.

Really, check the NRA site for laws they're pushing here.

I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.

Flatlander, you have a point with the pistols... I hunt in Kansas and they have a case-length law. The bullet has to be .23 caliber (same as rifle) and the case has to be 1.280 inches.

    Factory Winchester Silver-tip Hollow points:

    .357 mag (145 grain)
    Velocity (fps) 1290
    Energy (ft. lbs.) 535

    10mm (175 grain)
    Velocity (fps) 1290
    Energy (ft. lbs.) 649

What this means is the longer .357 is legal, whereas the equally (if not more) powerful 10mm is illegal. I wish that law would pass in Kansas! (just the good one, not all that other crap you guys have to put up with in IL)

I don't know anymore than that for Illinois, but for Wisconsin, they just relaxed there ruling. They went from hanguns requiring 1000 pounds muzzle energy(magnum load) and 6" barrel, to anything 22 caliber and up as long as it's center fire and retaining the 6" barrel requirement.
Guess I can use my Remington accelerators in my 30/30 now.[:D]

Might as well go 400 miles north to Minnesota. At least they are getting concealed carry. Wisconsin doesn't really offer anything much better in gun control than what we have now.
