?: Rem. mdl. 14 and tang sight
I purchased a Rem. mdl. 14 in 25 Rem. caliber a while back; thought I should have a tang sight for it so won an auction over on eXXX. When I got finally got around to putting the sight on the rifle, I found the sight screw holes too close together (or the tang holes too far apart, whatever). My 3 day inspection period is long gone; can someone tell me please, what do I have? The sight is a Lyman, marked on the bottom "R14", the rifle is serial #C144XX and bbl. stamped "Pederson's Patents 1909 & 1910" with the respective dates. Thanks for any help......again. Emery

The R14 is the correct sight for the Remington Models 14/141.
The only possibility I can think of is that you have a Model 14-C. The rimfire cousin of the 14, the Model 12, was offered in similar grades as the 14 and the Model 12-C was factory-fitted with a special Lyman sight.
Perhaps that is the significance of the 'C' in the serial number... More research...

Very interesting that you should have that problem. I have the reverse in that I purchased a tang site for my 12C and the site holes are too far apart! I'll have to go check the stamping on the bottom of my site and get back to you.
