Gun sighting vises
im in the market for a gun sighting vise so i can sight my gun in as accurately as possible but i have limited knowledge on the subject.i, by myself,am not steady enough to get the gun as accurate as i want.i see the prices vary greatly and it seems only the cheaper models actually say they are for sighting in.ill spend the extra money if i have to,but im not sure just what model i need.can someone give me some advise?thanks, Kevin

Lohman-Site Vice about $35.00 also good for bench work.
Sandbags seem to work the best for accuracy and fine tuning.

Forgive me if I'm making an incorrect assumption, but the sighting in process rarely uses a vice, but rather a bed of sandbags or such to steady the gun. The gun needs to recoil consistantly to produce the best accuracy, but rigidly clamping the gun alters the recoil and vibration modes and rarely prints targets that resemble real world groups. Benchrest shooters get pretty good groups with sandbags and sometimes expensive rests, even rails, but rarely vices.
If you are referring to handguns, the Ransom Rest and others of that ilk are truely vices that permit a controlled recoil for a machine rest group. but they cannot be expected to shoot to the same point of aim as a hand held gun.
A couple of sandbags and a small box to adjust height will get you a long way toward steadiness.

I'll agree that a rifle just wont' shoot out of a vise,...not to mention you can't hardly get a good hold of it and feel comfortable with your grip. Shoot off bags and use the vise for cleaning.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
