Legality of the word "police"
Just got my concealed permit! very exciting, alot of responsibility, and yet very comforting. I am head of security for a new hotel resort in Florida, and wish to have a custom badge made, to keep with my permit and bussiness card stating my position as Head of Security. Does anyone know if there is a specific prohibition against using the word "police" on any I.D.?

If you are Head of Security why would you want to use the word "POLICE" ??????????? There are too many security guards now thinking they are police.

well people tend to take the term police more seriously, and we are a large retort...i just need to know the legality of the word

I believe that you will find this to vary from state to state. It's a pretty touchy and technical issue. For example: Security Officer is definately not Police Officer. Security Police Officer may be acceptable. I would be inclined to contact the Florida Attorney General's Office and ask the question. Why not move this topic over to the General Discussion Forum where there are a number of active Law Enforcement Officers? 0 -
Unless you're certified by the State of Fla as a LEO, and currently employed as a sworn law enforcement officer (not a security position), flashing or displaying a badge or ID with Police on it will get you locked up. State law prohibits it.

be careful carrying a gun around on duty at your job. a lot of employers...even security outifts don't allow their guards to be armed even if they do have a CCW.
