Sigma 40 cal to 9mm

I have a Sigma 40V I would like to know if I can switch the my slide & barrel with a 9mm slide & barrel? I know I would need new mags also, but would it work or would it just blow up in my face. If this would work where would the best place to get what I need?

  Hi Kickertkd and welcome...
  
  Basicly the only caliber that will change with the .40 is the .357 sig, such as the SIG p229 in .357sig can be converted to a 40 caliber and visversa, the diameter of the opening on the muzzle end of the slide is just about the same for the 40 cal and the .357sig, the 9mm is much smaller leaveing to much play between the slide and the barrel.

  He wants to swap out both slide and barrel... So the new breech face will be the right size. This swap works on Beretta 92/96 models, but I don't know about the Sigma.

  The physical dimensions of the magazines is different as well. S&W did that so that people wouldn't use the wrong one in their gun. As I remember you can get the 9mm into the grip of the .40, but the .40 mag won't go into the 9mm. It was several years ago I checked this, I'll try to check it again to confirm.
  
  On a Beretta, the mag dimensions are the same between the two calibers. There are several guns that are that way. However on a Sig 229 once again the .40 grip frame is internally wider than the 9mm, so you can't put in the wrong mag. If you try to put the 9mm into the .40 frame it will go in, but it fits loosely. On a S&W 4006 versus a 5906 the grip panels are exactly the same, but the internal dimensions of the mag well are different. The same is true on their .45/10mm frame. As where on a 1911 frame the mag well remains the same on any of the calibers in the single stack configuration.
  
  So to conclude, the swap, even with using a whole new top end, isn't always possible.
