Greetings, my question is if it is possible to have a post 64 Model 70 300 Magnum rebarreled with a hvy/varmint bbl in 30-06 or .308? If it is possible what would the aproximate cost be to have this done?

Had a Barrel Changed by Matthews and Son's in Downey, California..several Months ago..Changing the Barrel and Setting the Head Space cost Me $50.00.........Check with a Local Gunsmith in your area...Might be Higher........

I'm thinkin' the bolt may have to be swapped as well, since the Magnum's case head is larger than the '06 or .308-maybe the magazine can be blocked or filled, but you're lookin' at around $4-500 for the swap with all the extra parts-might just buy a new gun for that much.

I agree, making a caliber change like that is not just a matter of swapping barrels. If you were going from .243 to .308 or .270 to .30-06 it would be easy.

I basicly said the same things as these guys, but on the other post under this title.

new bolt, or place a shim in the current bolt
    buy the barrel blank
    pay the gunsmith

sell/trade what you have for the right rifle with correct bolt face, and go from there.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

You will find that it is more expensive to do the job that you describe than to buy another good used .308. Model 70 bolts are expensive if you can find one and you need to change the magazine also and the feed rails on the bottom of the action may not work w/o some work.
