colt python will this hurt the price

My uncle has a python that he has owned for about 30 years. He said around 25 years ago he had the gun rebarreled from a 4 inch to a 6 inch barrel. The six inch barrel is a colt python barrel. I was wondering will this hurt the value of the gun and if so by how much?

  Well, my take on it is that it is ruined for a collector, but not as a shooter. A collector would want to "letter" the gun, assuming that it is in collectable condition. The factory letter would show that it was originally a 6", and therefore altered. If not in collectable conditon, it is a shooter; and a shooter is a shooter. So it should be worth what any other 4" Python shooter is worth.

  I don't think any Python in standard configuration (other than maybe very, very early ones) have particularly outstanding collector value. These guns are expensive because they are deluxe revolvers and great shooters. I doubt that there is much value difference between the 4" amd 6" variations. Since the barrels are not numbered to the frames a 4" barrel in same condition as the rest of the gun could be swapped on to restore the gun to its original condition and nobody would know it wasn't the one that came on the gun.
