THE BEST POWDER FOR 300 WEATHERBY IS....
Reloading Remington brass with Nosler 165 gr BTs, Remington LRmag primers. What's been your best bet with powder??

I don't have a 300 WBY but have you tried H1000 or H4831? Both will give over 3100 PFS easily probably even over 3200 FPS in the 300 WBY with a 165 grain bullet.

I have been using Reloader 19 in some 150 gr loads. I like it, haven't had time to try a lot of different loads for mine yet though.

In 1947 when Roy Weatherby came up with this cartridge, "The Weatherby Guide" contained recipes for three different powders, (1) H-4831, (2) N-205, and (3) H-4350. For some reason, although there have been some powders that have went by the wayside, and there are some new ones, but H-4831 seems to be the one used most in ALL of the .300 Magnums. There may be some other powder that works as good, but it is doubtful there is any that are better. I've also found that H-4831 has the best accuracy and highest velocity!
Here are three loads. The top one, (86.0 grains), is considered to be the MAXIMUM Load.....You may want to start at the Minimum and work your way up!
Keep the Overall Cartridge Length at 3.56 inches.
Using H-4831---86.0 gr will give 3310 fps Muzzle and 2790 @ 200 yd
84.0 gr will give 3226 fps Muzzle and 2719 @ 200 yd
82.0 gr will give 3140 fps Muzzle and 2647 @ 200 yd

Thanks Ranchero, look like good info. I agree with you, the good old IMR powders work well with most everything, and are still here. How many new wonder powders fell by the wayside?? More than I can count. I like the ball powders for varment guns and match shooting where I load a lot, but still use IMR for most hunting guns, after all how many rounds do you need for deer, elk and antelope hunting??[8D][8D]

Hi packrat,over the years of reloading the "300's",I've probably loaded more with H4831 than all the rest combined.I've gotten excellent results with this powder,also,just my 2 cents,Bob. 0 -

H4831 was a surplus military powder that at one time was being sold in Phoenix, Az for $1 a pound. That was before it was designated H4831. There was a guy that was buying it in large quantities and selling it in paper sacks in any quantity you wanted. He was shut down by the Phoenix Fire Dept. Later he opened up another Company and was selling 1000 empty once fired .223 military cases, 1000 primers and enough powder to load 1000 rounds. I believe he also had a special on 1000 7.62 once fired military cases, 1000 primers and enough powder to load 1000 rounds of ammo. I don't know what happened to his company as I moved from there over 20 years ago.

I have a 300 Wea., and I like to use lighter loads in it. Using 165 Gr. bullets and IMR 4350 in the "accuracy" load as suggested in the Sierra guide, it shoots 1/2" groups with a load that equalls the 300 Win. factory load, but at lower pressure, and it's a pleasure to shoot. You can get higher velocity with slower burning powder, but anything that you shoot with it won't be able to tell the difference.0
