WALTHER P38
Looking for any information about this gun, its a 9mm, value? any history, is it a good gun to purchase? Thanks in advance,

the walther P38 is a very good shooting gun, price wise they`ll run you(depending on markings)from 3 bills to over a grand(these being on auctions) I found some history for you I hope this helps...
It was the autumn of 1886 when Carl Walther laid the foundation stone of today's Walther Works in Zella-Mehlis, a traditional site of many German factories. Carl Walther's greatest interest was in the design of self-loading pistols. Breaking new ground in firearms technology, the first usable German self-loading pistol was released in 1908 as the "Walther Model 1, caliber 6.35 mm". Virtually every World War I officer carried one of the small Walther pocket pistols.
After Carl Walther's death in 1915 his sons continued his work and his conpany. Fritz especially inherited his father's passion for self-loading technology. In 1929 he succeeded in producing the first pistol with a single and double action trigger - the Walther Model PP - and shortly thereafter, the compact Model PPK.
When the German military called for the more powerfull 9mm cartridge in 1938 the Model P38 was developed. This pistol is used today by many armies and its system is imitated by numerous other firearms companies.
The orginalWalther factory was destroyed in WWII, but Fritz Walther managed to save a handful of design documents and brought them to West Germany. Building again from the ground up he was able to build a new factory in 1953 in the city of Ulm where most of todays Walther production is located.
After celebrating its centennial as a family enterprise, Walther entered into the new globalization era by merging with Umarex in 1993. The Umarex Sportwaffen GmbH & Co Kg, under the management of Wilf-Heinz Pflaumer and Franz Wonisch, had a history that was truley unequaled in the weapons business. The success of the merger guaranteed the future of the Walther tradition. It has been demonstrated repeatedly with such accomplishments as winning gold medals at the Atlanta Olympics and developing the acclaimed police and defence model P99 - The First Pistol for the Next Century.T

Up front I will tell you that we sell P-38's, If you have a real interest in this fine weapon go to the listing of books and do a search "P38" and you will find some books that are not high dollar $15.00 to $20.00, bid on one of them and set down and read. The P.38 is a very good pistol. However, to establish it's value some very specific info will be needed. Date code, ie., AC42, series, serial number block example,1344b, b being the block letter. Proof mark locations AND inspector marks, Acceptance marks such as E/359,& E/over swastica. whether it bears old or late machining marks, pre-war, wartime or post war production. It gets kind of involved on these old pistols. If you have a digital camera take pics of every mark,stamp, serial #, on the gun and post it on the P.38 forum. There is a welth of experience there and they will be able to pin it all down for you. You're pistol could all original, an arsenal parts gun, VOPO rework, Eastern block rework, etc. A lot happened to these pistols after the war. Also one other thing that has a effect on value, is it all steel or does it have an alloy frame? Zero, double Zero and HP series pistols have alloy frames.0
