Webley Air Pistols
A friend of the family had a Webley Air pistol in the early '60s. I was about 13 at the time but remember it as a very well made and relatively accurate. I remember steel and wood, no plastic. I searched the net and the Tempest Model is the most reminiscent of the pistol I remember, <http://www.airgunexpress.com/webleytempestairpistol104-09-2225.htm> but it was much plainer. Does anyone know what this model might have been? I can't find a picture of it. There is a book available, "Webley Air Pistols: Their History and Development," by Gordon Bruce, but it's quite expensive and I can't get it through the library. Any Ideas?

I have just aquired a air pistal.
It has these markings.
The Webley "junior".177
Webley & Scott Ltd,Birmingham 4
Made in England.
The only numbers on it is 181
Can anyone tell me about it and what it might worth

After some searching on the net I keep finding references to the Junior model as being antique then I find conflicting references of them being made in the 1970's. I don't know enough about airguns to be of any more help other than saying that you should probably fire off an e-mail to Webley & Scott and see if they can identify your airgun with any degree of certainty. They are in England and they do make some of the finest air rifles and pistols you can buy for the last 70-100?? years. I'm sure they have kept some data of their older production lines.

You're webley junior model has been around for a LOOOOONG time. That said, to pin down production era. Look at the construction material closely, the older guns are steel and brass. Later guns were all steel and the newest are steel aluminum and plastic. Older guns will have wood grip panels, latter backlite and newest plastic. Webley should be able to tell you when it was made by the serial number. 181 might well be it, this would also indicate a VERY early example. Webley&Scott have been in the air gun business for nearly 100 years. The "junior" was discontinued in 1972, after 55 years of production and refinement. Value is something entirely different. These pistol tend to vary wildly in value. As with all things, it is worth what the market will bear,ie,. what someone is willing to spend.
