Whats the difference between 7.62x54 and 7.62x54R?

  The R stands for rimmed. But I do believe you are speaking of the same cartridge, just leaving the R off the first one. Winchester made several hundred thousand Model 1895's in 7.62x54R for the Czar. Largest single cartridge made for the 1895.
