S&W Mod.1076 10mm Questions
I just purchased the above pistol and in reading up about it, I learned that when they were initially introduced that some serious problems were discovered resulting in a recall. I'm not talking about the FBI's decision to switch to 40 caliber. Apparently there was some malfunction that warranted the recall but the author of the article did not go into any details concerning the problem - if there really was a problem
Does anyone have any info on this? If you own a 1076 what is your opinion of the pistol - any problems? I haven't shot it yet so please let me know any backround info you have and your evaluation of the pistol.
Thanks

I have had one for a number of years. It is a fairly heavy weapon,
but mine has proven very accurate. Some complain about the recoil, but I have never felt that way, maybe like a stout .45 load. Extra magazines are somewhat scarce, but able to be found for a price.0 -
I had one for awhile I liked it, but it was to bulky for conceled carry and I keep a shotgun at home.
It shot well but when a friend wanted it enough I let it go.0 -
Yes, there was a recall and a lot of things were updated on them. You can tell if yours has been updated already - if there's two dots under the frame-mounted decocker (when it has been pushed down) then it has been done. I'd contact S & W for more info.
It is hard to read, but yhere's some good info:

I really want to get one of these, or a colt delta elite. The 10mm is the best non-magnum cartridge going, in spite of what most people argue.
Let me know if you decide to sell it!0 -
Bambi: My pistol hasn't arrived yet but the first thing I'll do is check for those dots under the decocker. I read the S&W links you gave me and I appreciate you helping me out on this - I had only heard rumors of a recall and didn't know whether to believe them or not.
If I ever do decide to sell it - you'll be the first to know.
Thanks again,
John

Glad I could help... I just knew this stuff because I've been looking into it. A really nice guy over on the general discussion forum has a really sweet 1076 also. He might be able to help you with any additional questions (screenname: offeror).
Seriously, write my email address down I don't care if it is tomorrow, or 3 years from now. I haven't started looking too hard for it yet, I have 2 guns in front of it to buy. But ya never know. [;)]

I really like the 10mm's, have three at the present time. I had a 1006 that would shoot Hornady's into one jagged hole at 25 yards. Foolishly let a fellow talk me out of it. My two 1076's and 1066 seem to shoot about eveything into 2-4" groups at 25 yards. I have shot probably 800-1000 rounds through them and never had a single malfunction with any type of ammo. I think any 10mm you get is going to be fairly large in size due to the size of the cartridge and the pressures it developes. I think the recoil is no more than a 45 ACP. 0 -
Bambi - I'll keep your e-mail address on hand just in case. 25-06 - thanks for the information about your S&W's. Mine should arrive this week. I rarely sell or trade a gun once I bought it - in fact I just bought a 35 Whelen custom built on a Czech/98 Mauser action.
I've promised myself no more gun purchases for a long, long time. Is there any pill I can take to make sure I keep my promise????
Thanks again guys - you've been a great help
