Colt Diamondback - Date of mfg
Looking for date info on a 4" Blue, Colt Diamondback 22lr with SN in the S84000 range. And, what should the proper grips look like? Mine are checkered walnut kinda orange in color with gold Colt Medallions. They fit, but are not as fitted as I would expect. There is a small gap between the butt of the gun and the inner base of the grips.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Probably 1981. All Diamondbacks that I have seen came with walnut target stocks. I have seen both gold and silver medallions but I don't know if the color relates to the caliber, year, or if it had any meaning at all. I have never seen orange colored grips but they might be later ones or maybe aftermarket with the medallions installed. I have had three Diamondbacks over the years and all three had severe trouble with grip fit. Had to fiddle with all of them and used shims in a couple to keep them tight. I think Colt quality control went to hell late 1970s and early 1980s. They had labor trouble and a strike sometime around this time so who knows who was working on the assembly line and what frame of mind they were in?
