Cost To Rebarrel a Model 70?

Greetings, my question is if it is possible to have a post 64 Model 70 300 Magnum rebarreled with a hvy/varmint bbl in 30-06 or .308? If it is possible what would the aproximate cost be to have this done?

  You would have to find a bolt with the standard bolt face diameter and not the magnum bolt face, or place a shim in the boltface to grip the .473 standard case, which isn't the best way of doing it. I would sell the rifle you have, or trade it for a standard caliber rifle, and then rebarrel that one. A good stainless barrel (pacnor lilja, hart, shilen, kreiger, etc) will run just shy of $300 for the blank, and probably another $200-$250 for chambering, reaming, threading and crowning. A chrome moly version will probably save you $100+/-.
