new barrel for rifle

Wanted to know if any one make's a barrel already chambered for the cal. of rifle you already have or do you half to buy a blank and have it chambered.Also who make's a good barrel with out haveing to spend a lot of cash.Thank's for any information on this.

  SEVERAL MAKERS SELL PRECHAMBERED AND THREADED BARRELS FOR SOME RIFLES (M-98 MAUSERS, REM. M-700'S) THESE STILL HAVE TO BE FIT AND HEADSPACED BY A GUNSMITH. ADAMS AND BENNET MAKE SOME OF THE LOWEST PRICED BARRELS I'VE SEEN (THEY SHOOT REASONABLY WELL). CHECK MIDWAYUSA.COM OR GUNPARTSCORP.COM FOR THESE

  Shaw also makes such barrels, but this is not an at home project unless you are a gunsmith, and even using a modestly priced barrel it is not really cheap. In almost every case you will have to have the rifle reblued. Also if you change from .308 to another cartridge in that family, say .260 Rem or .243, you will have no problem with the action/magazine. If you go from .243 to .270, then you will have to do some additional work to make it fit, and mostly it is cheaper to simple buy another rifle. There may be really good reasons for you to do this, but saving money is not one of them.

  You can save a bunch by bying a factory take-off barrel from someone who used the action for a project of their own. BUT,....you must still have it headspaced by a competent gunsmith.

  bolt, you didn't specify which rifle you have. If it's a savage, you can buy the wrench and headspacer from midway and do it yourself no problem. Midway sells a wide variety of barrels at reasonable prices.

  Adams and Barnett barrels are made for Midway by Shaw
  The real expense of a new barrel is in the LABOR and FINISH, not the price of the tube. A Shillen, Douglas, Pac-nor, Lother-Walther etc. barrel can be had for about $70 dollars more than a Shaw/A&B.

  Brownell's sells Shilen barrels for the M-98 Mauser that
  are contoured and short chambered. Bought one and had
  a gunsmith put it on an '09 Arg. action for my brother.
