What's the difference in the letters on the Stevens 311 shotguns?

I have a " D " I'm guessing Deluxe?

  Bluebook says the 311-R is for law enforcement use only, but does not mention any other models.

  I say this "tongue in cheek" but...
  
  Mostly the advancing model designations signify that Stevens had found an even cheaper way to make a gun. That being said (and more or less true), there aren't significant differences in value or anything else that I'm aware of.

  What Nord says is true of the Model 99, though there are mostly minor changes to the rifle throughout its manufacture period and the model designations, which don't appear on the guns, mostly reflect these changes. There are some price variations in this case, though mostly not large, due mostly to the differing numbers of each incarnation produced, and to rarer calibers being offered in some.
