Gold Cup Serial Number

Greetings experts, I have a question that someone here can explain I'm sure. I have a Colt Gold Cup National Match .45 MKIV Series 70. It's in great shape and I'm happy with it so far, my question is this, in the COLT'S DATES OF MAUFACTURE that I have the Gold Cup serial #'s are given as 10-NM TO 70N40401 BETWEEN 1957 AND 1977 Either having the letter designation NM at the end of the number XXX-NM, or having the 70N designation at the beginning of the number 70N31600 for instance. The serial number of my Colt is 1786X N70. Am I missing something, is it backward, supposed to be this way or is it a fake? Hope you can set my mind to rest about this.

  The N70 suffix was used 1981-1983 and yours was made in 1982.

  1967. The National Match predates the Gold Cup. Very much sought after.

  thanks, bought the gun new, shot about 4 boxes mid-range, just put on a set of stag grips. Look's good. Thanks again.

  What caliber is your NM? When you say "mid-range" do you have a .38 Special?
