k frame S&W
up until sometime frames were marked "made in usa" then along came "marcas registratas" why? and when? must be early 50's huh?

The last S&W's marked "Made in USA" only, were made during 1947.I forget the exact reason they added the the 4 line markings,something to do with trademark recognition and all of the Spanish copies. 0 -
Smith & Wesson was sold to Bangor Punta in 1965. I think it was BP who used the "Marcas Registradas" on the guns.
BP sold S&W to Lear Siegler in 1984. Tomkins P.L.C. then bought S&W in 1987. They were the British company.
Most recently S&W was bought by Saf-T-Hammer corp in Arizona. That was in 2001.0 -
you must be right barrocky, my k22 is l947 with the single line. my k32 is l952 with the marcas registratas. thanx again. 0 -
LL, as Barrocky says, the "Marcas Registratas" markings began close to twenty years before Bangor Punta bought Smith & Wesson in 1965. What source made you think Bangor Punta originated the marking?
I too believe it was the Spanish copies that prompted the markings, probably after filing trademarks in Spain.0
