scope problems
Mounted a one piece Leupold base on a Browning. Using a Redfield scope I cannot adjust the scope enough to align with the bore picture. I have run out of adjustment/
Is it the scope, base, mounting holes or me?

I just installed a scope on a mauser rifle and am having problems.
I am using a lazer bore scope and when I try to line up the dot on
the crosshairs I cannot get the the veriacle line over far enough
to line up and the screw is all the way. Is my scope messed up????
or am I using the bore sighter wrong?

Hey Mike,you didn't say what kind of mounts you are using,but if they are just regular bases without adjustment in them,I've reversed my rings or the bases before to get additional adjustment needed.Just a thought,Bob. 0 -

Deadeye has a very good point, and that will correct the problem 99.9% of the time, also there is one other thing to check, I had a customer with the same problem, he had his mauser drilled and tapped by a different gunsmith and when he brought it to me to have it looked at I noticed that the bases we out of allignment, the other guy drilled and tapped the bases off center, not by much but it was enough to throw the scope cross hairs off....

Possibility of three things:
> Laser boresighter is not set right, or off.
> Mounting system is off.
> Scope adjustments are off.
?#1. What boresighter are you using?
?#2. What base & rings?
?#3. Before you stsrted adjusting the scope, did you start with the
scopes adjustments being 'centered'?

ok guys here is what I am useing and such
1. I am useing a lazorlyte bore sighter
2. Weaver bases and rings
3. no I have not brought the settings to center
4. I turned rings around and remounted it didn't help

First of all, I have no respect for bore sighters. Call me old fashion, but the only way I see to sight a gun in is on paper. Try that. If you don't feel confident enough to do it, have a gunsmith do it, thats what they are there for.
Next if its still won't go over enough, then its probably your base, probably not the scope.
If its not the base then it may possibly be the mounting holes are not lined up true along the reciever. That will require them to be redrilled and could be a real pain.0 -
Have tried & returned that make. Too many deviations in setup. Thgat can be the major problem. Remember, for every one thousandth of an inch (0.001) you'll be off about one inch (1") at 100 yards.
Human hairs vary from 0.0035 to 0.0070. Don't pull one out of your head, take my word (ouch) for it.
?. Your earlier post seemed to say that you were adjusting the lazer dot to meet the vertical line??? Yes-No?

Scope 'Opti-Mechanical' adjustment= Gently screw out both W & E screws. Then gently screw in counting the turns,...till it you start to feel resistance. Back out one half(1/2) the turns. Do seperately.
Bases installed= With a stiff SQUARE flat edge, lay it on the left & right sides of the bases.
Do the same along the base tops.
Lay the edge on top of the bases, 'thru' the screw centers. Straight?
Any light, or gaps means the base itself is off, and/or the mounting is off.
Compare bases to each other. Check the 'set marks' of the base bottom to see how it lays.
Check how the bottom of the screw head make a 'set mark' in the base hole.
Check the screw heads to see if they fit right in the bases.
Have you tried pulling the bolt, and centering the target thru the bore to compare?
If not, try it. Secure the rifle so it won't move, then remove, and replace that bore sighter a couple times. Watch the dot move.

I've found that when doing a boresight with the "Mk-1 eyeball" system, that a fireformed case (with the primer knocked out) in the chamber helps to cut down the error.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0
