AK-47 .223 Bakelite Mags
Are all AK .223 Bakelite Magazines actually converted 5.45 mags?

I`m not sure but the AK74 mags I think will only take th 5.45x39 round,I`m checking on this for you so I`ll get back to you with the answer.

well from what I have read and found out is that the mags were originaly made for the 5.45x39 not the .223, if they are .223 they were converted from the original caliber I`ve check on alot of AK sites and basicly this is the info I got... hgope it helps.[8D]

"Ranger37" is correct--based upon what I've read.
I'd add that there are the Bulgarian polymer magazines which are made specifically for the .223--don't confuse them with the bakelite/fiberglass converted mags.0 -
I have handled those mags for some time and the answer is yes they are converted from their original 5.45 caliber configuration. The process isn't all that tough. There are several .223 mags out there that were made to be exactly that, .223, but all of the Bakelite ones I've seen were converted from the 5.45 caliber. Of course there are the 7.62 caliber red fiberglass/bakelite ones as well, but that is another story. The .223 bakelite ones out there now can be distinguished by the black top on the mag and they will usually have ".223" stamped on the floor plate as well to show that they have been converted. 0
