Will tracer ammo hurt my barrel?
Was thinking about buying some...just wondering if it would damage the inside of my barrel...(chrome lined ak barrel)?

A steady diet of tracers isn't a good idea. They are typically
spaced out at about every five rounds or so as to delay the dammage
and lenghthen barrel life but then again I'm used to using them in
full-auto weapons that it's typical to burn up a couple thousand rounds in a range session. I will say be careful as they most definitely start grass fires and not many ranges will let you use them.0 -
They won't hurt your barrel. Treat as any other ammo and clean weapon at the end of the day. Some states don't allow as mentioned previously. Hard as heck to start a fire, even shooting through a milk jug of gasoline. 0 -
Stories of tracer ammo damaging bbls is a crock! Tracer ammo does not even light up (start to burn) until bullet has travelled 50-150 yds. Of course there are inherent dangers (fire starting) and restrictions (range officers frown on their use), but beyond that, they will not harm your gun.

The reason you load 1-5 is why waste tracers? you go thru a 30 rd mag that fast, you'll probably only see 2 or 3 tracers anyway. No they wont hurt your barrel, just be carful as noted above!!

Thanks all for the replies!!! Probably won't be shootin' em like my regular plinkin ammo...too damn expensive...the ones I've seen are like $1.00 a rnd for 7.62x39 ammo....ain't too cheap to get real carried away with...but would like to check out the tracer/incindiary and some of the star burst rounds though.
