BEST BULLET TEST MEDIUM??

There has been a lot written about testing bullets in Ord jell, wet newspapers, phone books, etc. etc. etc. My question is , what test material have you had the most succes with, besides deer and elk!

  I have used a phone book a few times. I read alot about test fires of new bullets in some of the magazines I get.The phone books give a pretty good idea of how well the bullet peforms.

  I have also seen testing done with large blocks of soft clay. Cut in half after the shot, you can get a pretty good idea of the wound cavity, etc.

  I've used plain ol' river clay (down here it's called adobe) with previously eaten rib, steak & pork chop bones placed inside a shaped target very successfully.
  It mimics almost perfectly what happens inside a real abdomen.
  Got the idea from a Perry Mason book I got when I was 13.
  I figure it's about 78% water, and if you put the bones in anatomically; you'll get spall, deflection & 'shrooming! I just put the whole mess in a T-shirt for "skin".

  Sir, Ross Seyfried has a very good article on this in the May issue of Rifle Magazine. He explains the pro's and con's of most test mediums and what his favorite test medium is. Wet Paper. The article also tells how to build a fairly simple test box. Good Luck.

  Other animals. Coyotes and feral dogs being the most common,if you seek info on ammo that's used against men or similar sized critters.
